what i do
Through a well-written personal statement, you can give admission committees a glimpse of who you are as a person, beyond the spreadsheet of tabulated grades and test scores. The statement is your voice; the page is your microphone. I founded The Eaton Review to help students like you sculpt powerful and compelling statements where your story—your why—is centered and uplifted. Whether you want one last set of eyes on a final draft or need to sculpt a statement from scratch, I am here to help you articulate your unique journey in a way that feels polished and authentic.

who i am
As a Federal Public Defender and Pastor, my professional life consistently illustrates the magnetism of storytelling. Through opening briefs, closing arguments, and afternoon sermons—before judges, juries, and congregations, I become the window frame through which my audience can see my client. My journey to this point has taken me into hollowed educational spaces.
While attending The University of Chicago Law School as a Rubenstein Scholar, I served as a comment editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law before clerking for a federal judge. Later, I attended Yale Divinity School as a Marquand Scholar and served on the Admissions Committee which selected future Yale Divinity classes. A personal statement, like the sermon or the closing argument, is simply another genre of storytelling.
And, to my surprise, I think it is my favorite of them all.
why choose me
I’ve sat in the rooms dialoguing with Yale deans and professors over which personal statements were the most memorable and which letters of recommendation were the most impactful. I know what the “Ivies” are looking for and how they think. Students I have worked with have been accepted to the best schools in the country:
Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, Howard, Chicago, MIT
and many more. I have over a decade of experience helping people with personal statements, and I’ve personally reviewed and edited over 500 statements.
When you choose The Eaton Review, you choose me,
Charles Eaton.
